2012-2013 - Community Center
In 2012, the Mayor's office in El Espino approached the FCE for its collaboration in renovating and expanding the existing community center, called the Casa Comunal. This gated building sits high on a hill in the middle of the community and is one of the most multi-use facilities in the area. The community holds celebrations, workshops, and meetings here; it serves as the regional base for the national guard; youth organizations meet to practice music, plays, and sports; numerous micro-businesses use the facility for the production of their crafts. What's more, the small, elongated building has served as a shelter during and after natural disasters, which hit the small country constantly.
The Mayor's vision for this center is to use the large open space outside of the small building to create a paved multi-use sports field, complete with a sturdy roof, plumbing, and electricity. The project is budgeted at $50,000 and the Mayor has committed $35,000 in municipal funds. The FCE has committed to raising the remaining $15,000 in three installments. Please consider making a donation to this project which will truly benefit the whole community and contribute to a higher quality of life for residents in El Espino.
