Houses Built After Hurricane Ida
El Salvador is a country that is often hard-hit by natural disasters, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, mudslides, flooding and volcanoes. These events can be devastating to the country's poor, who live in shacks and plastic shelters, often in high-risk areas, and who have no one to turn to in times of crisis.
After Hurricane Ida last November, the FCE raised funding for relief efforts in El Espino, which has now turned into three beautiful homes for some of the hardest-hit families in the community! All three families were still living in temporary plastic tarps provided by aid agencies after the 2001 earthquakes. They described to us how everything they owned would get soaked when it rained, which is daily during the rainy season. The hurricane took what was left of their tarps and tore them to shreds. On May 28, construction was finished and the houses were inaugurated. Now, the families feel safe and prepared for this hurricane season!
Thanks to the Sister Parish, Immaculate Heart of Mary, for its outpouring of support in the amount of almost $2300 and to all of our individual donors.
